USA Cricket Vice-Captain Aaron Jones poses next to a giant cricket ball, installed at a marketplace to mark 100 days to go for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, in Miami, Florida, on Feb. 22, 2024. But the sport has boomed in India, the world's most populous country, as well as some other former British colonies. And now, the U.S. men's national cricket team will represent the home country in this year's International Cricket Council Men's T20 World Cup. While traditional cricket matches can last as long as five days, a T20 match typically lasts around three hours. The early June world cup matchups will bring some of that star power to the U.S., with a high-profile India-Pakistan competition and culminating in a U.S.-India match.

CNN —The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has criticized Russia’s so-called Friendship Games as being “purely politically motivated” and a violation of the Olympic Charter. According to Russian state news agency TASS, 5,500 people are expected to participate at the Friendship Games, competing for a total prize purse of 4.6 billion rubles (around $50 million). Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the event ensures “free access of Russian athletes and sports organizations to international sports activities,” TASS reported. The Friendship Games were first staged in 1984 in the Soviet Union, the same year that the country had boycotted the Los Angeles Olympics that year. CNN has contacted the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) in response to the IOC’s Tuesday press release.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Bryce Harper wants big leaguers to play in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred says pausing the regular season to make that happen would be difficult. “Everyone appreciates the challenges associated with major league players playing in a tournament that is in the middle of our season,” Manfred said before Fridays' World Series opener. The 31-year-old has long been an advocate of MLB taking a break during the season to let major leaguers play in the Olympics. “Casey Wasserman has been supportive of getting baseball back in the Olympics, which we appreciate,” Manfred said.

The people did not want to be named because the LA committee was expected to release the information later Monday. This year, the NFL placed three games in London and two games in Germany on its schedule. Flag football, in which “tackles” are made by pulling a flag off a belt worn by each player, would be a 5-on-5 affair played on a 50-yard field. While flag football will feel familiar to the home fans, cricket will be a steep learning curve. A version called Twenty20 — a shorter version of the original game — is proposed for the schedule in Los Angeles.

REUTERS/Lucy Nicholson/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNEW YORK, Oct 9 (Reuters) - Organisers of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics want cricket, flag football, lacrosse, squash, as well as baseball and softball added to their Games programme, according to media reports on Monday. LA28 organisers are expected to make public their recommendations in the next day, according to the Guardian. Flag football, an appealing option for the U.S.-based Games given the overwhelming popularity of the National Football League (NFL), squash and lacrosse would make their Olympic debut, if approved. Cricket, which enjoys enormous global appeal, would return after appearing once before at the 1900 Games, after the tremendous success for women's cricket at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — Cricket, breakdancing and flag football are still waiting to find out if they will be added to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The process to add sports that organizers in Los Angeles want at the 2028 Games was unexpectedly delayed Wednesday by the International Olympic Committee. India has long seemed the ideal setting to bring cricket — in its shortened T20 format — back to the Olympics for the first time since its only appearance at the 1900 Paris Games. Breaking, the official name of breakdancing, is likely to be retained in 2028 ahead of its widely anticipated debut in Paris next year. The IOC gave no new timetable Wednesday for decisions, saying that “the sports program for the Olympic Games LA28 will be discussed during a later IOC (board) meeting, to take place at a date to be decided.”___

While most modern Olympics have had seven years from winning hosting rights to opening ceremony, Brisbane had a big headstart after being awarded Australia's third Summer Games back in 2021. Construction delays have been a major issue for several recent Games but Brisbane is unlikely to face such problems with 84% of the planner venues already existing facilities. After wide consultation with stakeholders and locals, the planned legacy of the Games is already being worked out. "Local jurisdiction dictates what happens in stadiums and... Australian law allows beer to be served," Liveris said.

Nov 21 (Reuters) - The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Monday proposed new rules that would help pave the way for commercial air taxi operations by around the middle of the decade. Electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL) have been touted as flying taxis that could be the future of urban air mobility. The FAA issued a proposal to update its air carrier definition to add "powered-lift" operations to regulations covering other commercial operations like airlines, charters and air tours. The FAA is separately developing a powered-lift operations rule for certifying pilots and operating requirements to fly eVTOLs. The FAA expects to issue an implementation plan next May that will help it meet the industry's ambitious growth plans, he added.

Mandatory Credit: Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY SportsSept 26 (Reuters) - The National Football League said on Monday it has decided to replace its annual Pro Bowl exhibition match between all-stars with a week-long skills competition and a flag football game starting next year in Las Vegas. The new event is being called "The Pro Bowl Games" and will replace the traditional tackle football game with competitions between the AFC and NFC culminating in a Feb. 5 game of flag football at the home of the Las Vegas Raiders. While flag football looks similar to tackle football, with passing and receiving, there is little protective equipment needed with play stopping when a defender pulls a cloth flag from the waist of an opponent. Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning and his Omaha Productions company will help to shape programming and promote content throughout the week and also be a key part of the coaching staff for the flag football game.
